Accessibility Mapping
Help make sport accessible for everyone
Accessibility information helps people with disabilities find sport facilities they can actually use. By adding accessibility tags to OpenStreetMap, you're helping create a more inclusive world.
On sportcarte, we display wheelchair accessibility information when it's available. This helps users plan their visits and avoid frustration.
Wheelchair Accessibility
The wheelchair tag describes whether a venue is accessible by wheelchair.
Use one of these values:
wheelchair=yes Fully wheelchair accessible. The venue is accessible without any barriers.
Example: A ground-level sports hall with wide doors and accessible toilets.
wheelchair=limited Partially accessible. Some areas are accessible but there may be barriers.
Example: A gym where the main floor is accessible but upper floors are not.
wheelchair=no Not wheelchair accessible. Significant barriers exist.
Example: A venue only accessible via stairs with no ramp or elevator.
What to Consider
When assessing wheelchair accessibility, consider:
- Entrance: Can someone in a wheelchair enter the building? Are there ramps or step-free access?
- Doors: Are doors wide enough (at least 80cm) and easy to open?
- Interior: Can a wheelchair user move around inside the venue?
- Toilets: Are accessible toilets available?
- Playing area: For spectators, is there wheelchair seating? For players, is the surface suitable?
