Help improve sport facility data for everyone

About OpenStreetMap

sportcarte data comes from OpenStreetMap (OSM), a collaborative project to create a free, editable map of the world. Think of it as Wikipedia for maps — anyone can contribute.

By contributing to OpenStreetMap, you're not directly updating sportcarte — you're improving the shared map data that powers thousands of applications worldwide. sportcarte benefits from your contributions along with everyone else who uses OSM data.

How to Contribute

Anyone with an OpenStreetMap account can contribute. If you don't have one yet, create a free account and you're ready to start editing.

In OpenStreetMap, you edit map features — these are the individual elements on the map like buildings, roads, parks, or sport facilities. Each feature can be a point, a line, or an area. Learn more about map features.

What Appears on sportcarte

For a facility to appear on sportcarte, the OSM feature must have a sport tag (e.g., sport=basketball, sport=tennis) and not be contained inside another feature tagged with access=private.

Sport tags are typically combined with:

  • leisure — for facilities like leisure=sports_centre, leisure=swimming_pool, or leisure=fitness_centre
  • leisure=pitch — for outdoor playing fields and courts

Supported Sports

sportcarte currently supports the following sports. While OpenStreetMap includes many more, we've focused on these to ensure quality data and a good user experience. Click on a sport to view its OSM wiki documentation.

We plan to add more sports in the future. If there's a sport you'd like to see on sportcarte, get in touch and let us know!
